too much to tell from yesterday.
both the loo/hws guy and the builder stayed for an hour and a half each, so it was a longish day of getting quotes.
the loo will not go in the laundry shed, which I'm likely to let fall down in a charming rustic manner, as its supports are rotted through and the boards are rapidly shedding. instead, I'll put an enclosure where the tanks are now. the question with that and the grey water system (which involves a bit more excavation than I'd like) is whether the council will allow it. now, the grey water currently goes straight into the ground. I really can't afford a septic. so they're just going to have to allow it.
the roof will probably take a small hws. although a straight electric would be cheaper, I'd rather have solar so there's water when people arrive there and it can then be electrically boosted.
I'll have to do some more work on getting some rising damp fixed - it's only in the brickwork. the stone is dry as dry. and the builder has a simple solution to the movement in the stone walls - a kind of metal brace which will secure it nicely.
but all that fuss and expense aside, it was good to spend some time there. it's such a big project. I suspect the stables will sit there with junk in them for ages until I get to clearing them. there's more of a slope on the land than I'd thought, and my orchard at the front, natives and pond at the back, garden plan looks like it will work. there are some blackberries sneaking in from the neighbour's land, in the stables. they can't be burned because of the stables. so they may have to be poisoned, or slashed, if you can get a machine in there, which I doubt. I can't stand blackberries. nice to eat, horrible weeds.
a huge flock of cockatoos whirled into some trees a few hundred metres away while I was standing outside, filling the air with whirring and squawking. later they waddled around the paddock behind the pub, feeding on grass seeds. the place is positively infested with magpies and their song. yum.
